In this exhibition, Ingrid Deuss brought together 3 photographers who each work in a different segment of photography: art photographer, documentary / reportage photography and fashion photography.
Joost Vandebrug - Exhilarating
One of the three artists she curates in this special exhibition is the Dutch art photographer Joost Vandebrug. He shows a series of new work, rooted in years of travel along the river Danube. By printing hundreds of unique monotypes on handmade paper, grids are created that bring the work together in a journey from light to dark. The artist embraces the imperfections that arise, leaving far behind the photographic tradition that strives for immaculate, perfect prints.
Jakob Ulens - Bloedmooi.doodeerlijk.
A century ago, crime scene photography really took off in Belgium. When we hold the oldest photos up to the light again, we are close to history. We enter personal stories, even if the court photographer only shows the decor. We get a unique documentary insight into daily life, because he didn't have to hide anything. We look at beautiful compositions, because the photographer was also a professional. Stunningly beautiful. Doodeerlijk is a project by freelance historian & photographer Jakob Ulens. He digitized the oldest photo negatives of the judicial police of Antwerp. In this project, Jakob explores the interface between a documentary and an artistic approach. In this exhibition, the visual power of the photos is paramount. In the future, stories will be expanded in many ways. The scenography of the expo is by Charbel Abou Zeidan.
